Premium Grade Steatite Soapstone For Carving
Steatite Soapstone has been used for carving for hundreds of years. It makes a great carving medium, it is a soft and yet very dense, easily carveable stone.
Our soapstone blocks are pre cut in two sizes:
- 27 1/2 " x 12" x 6 1/2" (219lbs)
- 12" x 6" x 6"(43lbs)
These blocks are mined in the Mariana soapstone region of Brazil, at the Barroca Soapstone quarry. The Barroca Soapstone, is a light gray , lightly veined stone. Once oiled or waxed, it becomes a very dark black with pronounced white marbling.
